Parenting Seminar 2018

It is indeed our immense pleasure that St. Xavier’s Institution organized a seminar on ‘Good Parenting’ and invited parents of Todds to K.G. on 11.08.2018. Prof. Dr. Malay Kumar Bhattacharjee, MBBS, M.S., MCH, Ex-H.O.D., Department of Paediatric, R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital. He was felicitated by our Hon’ble Secretary, Managing Committee, Mr. Dyutiman Banerjee. The renowned paediatrician enlightened our young parents on how could they help in making their wards emotionally sound and physically strong citizens of India. He highlighted on the fact that parents should practice what they preach themselves, then only they can expect their wards to do the same. Children at the tender age of 4 to 6 years learn by imitating. They have no other role models to imitate besides their parents who are their heroes. Parents should know how and what to speak in front of their kids. They should respect each other’s dignity and share the household chores too. The male member should never dominate or the female member should not always complain and criticize the other. He also advised the guardians to abstain from giving everything to their children in surplus whenever they demand. Restrain, hard work, struggle, fellow-feeling and truthfulness must be practiced by parents to inculcate these habits right from early childhood.

The day was divided into two sessions – the first session started with a welcome speech by the Headmistress, Mrs. Anju Banerjee at 10:30 a.m. sharp. It was declared open by our Hon’ble President, Managing Committee, Mr. Sailendra Kumar Chakraborty. The session continued till 12:30 p.m. It was an interactive session where parents asked about how could they minimize the addiction of mobile phones of their wards, what food should be given and what should be avoided.

The guardians were satisfied and said that it would definitely help them in grooming their wards’ development. They appreciated the endeavour of the school in organizing such seminars. They further requested to organize for one to one counseling from some psychological expert. They thanked the honourable guest and the school authority from the core of the heart for such wonderful and valuable experience.

The seminar not only inspired the guardians but the teachers too. They were also advised on how to tackle the class room problems, how to guide the restless and naughty children, and to be always positive as every child is a bundle of immense and unknown possibilities. He reiterated the fact that great scientists and academicians were always the last benchers. The parents of naughty children need not worry as it is a sign of intelligent students full of energy who need to be channelized positively. It ended at 4:00 p.m. with a vote of thanks to the guardians as well as the Guest-of-Honour by the Headmistress.
