The festive flavour of SXI begins with the month of December and the year 2011 is no exception. The five day Xavi Carnival started with the Annual Sports Meet held at Sodepur Club ground on the 18th and 19th of December, 2011. The students took their oath and competition started to foster a healthy environment amongst the children of SXI which teaches the youngsters to remain cheerful in both victory and defeat. On 18th December, 2011 Mr. Madan Mitra, Hon’ble Sports Minister had come to grace the occasion, There were other dignitaries too, like Sri Champak Bhattacharya, Superintendent of Police (24Pgs. North) as guest of honour and inaugurated the Annual Sports Meet.  Mr. Alvito Kounha, eminent footballer as special guest was there in the field to inspire the youth and boost up their confidence and will power. The children performed a colourful drill and then the competition began. The tiny toddlers to unleash their locked up talent and enjoyed themselves. The little kid’s race was an exquisite spectacular performance. The first day passed by swiftly and the sports of junior school H.C.Dutta Road campus came to an end. The next day the sports of T.N.B campus and senior school took place. The guardians, teachers even the non-teaching staff had enjoyed their event sportingly. The 18th December, 2011 and 19th December, 2011 were entitled “Soar with Sports Day and Wings of Fire Day” respectively. The Sports Meet  ended smoothly with a positive mind to go ahead in life whether they lose or win for victory is not one’s goal but just a mere journey or destination.

The 21st of December was entitled “The Winter Wonder”. The cultural delight started at 5:00 p.m. with a prayer to Lord Ganesha to keep away all impediments and let the creative talent blossom in SXI in full swing. It was followed by a performance of students from Todds to Kg. which was an apt programme as they enacted the different rhymes which they had learnt throughout the year dressed as different  main  characters of rhymes.  The next was folk our root and beyond  in which the students and teachers had participated whole heartedly. It was a comedy with a message in it to go to our roots and relive folk culture. The next was ‘Jesus the savor’    to mark the beginning of Christmas and last but not least, all the ears were attentively tuned to soulful Rendition by Singer. Ms. Somlata Acharya Chowdhury. The evening came to an end after her enchanting melodious programme.

The following day was named as “Resplendent Rays day” and aptly there were dramas and recitals from Satyajit Ray and Sukumar Ray by children and the renowned Star Ananda Anchor Papia Singha Debnath. It was really an exquisite and singular performance as extracts from “Sonar Kella” were displayed on the giant screen while on the stage the children delivered the dialogues in front of the illuminati  Dr. Anup Ghosal, Mr. Paran Bandyopadhyay, Mr. Kushal Chakraborty and Ms. Madhabi Mukhopadhyay. The Guests were felicitated by the students with bouquets of flowers and also given mementos. They all spoke about Ray’s films and their relevance in today’s ultra modern times. Thereafter the stage was taken up by the popular singer  Samantak Sinha to transcend with music. The audiences were all awestruck.

The concluding day 23rd of December, 2011 was named as “Mesmerizing Music & Magic day”. The auspicious day was marked for the inauguration  of Annexe of St. Xavier’s Institution by Mr. Sauguta Roy Hon’ble Minister of State, Urban & Development, Govt. of India.  The students of Senior School all applauded to welcome which was a symphony of Indian  Shlokas and poetry recitals  accompanied by dance, too. The cultural programmes started 5:00 p.m. onwards with Jamaica farewell and tribute to Bhupen Hazarika. It was followed by the drama “Selfish Giant” and the musical bonanza “Stellar Show”. The evening ended with all the audience hypnotized by The Mesmerizing Magic Show by P. C. Sorcar (Young). An evening people will never forget in their life and all the students, guardians as well as the staff eagerly wait for another year to relive the December festive fervour as they say goodbye to the year 2011.
